Awakening Forest - Disguised Tree Enemies (Unity 2D)

They look like ordinary trees. Walk too close – or swing your axe at the wrong one – and the forest wakes up.

A small pack of disguised tree enemies for top-down / 3/4 view games, ready to drop into Unity.

What you get

• Elder Oak – slow and tough, heavy slam + root spike ranged attack
• Lanky Oak – fast and fragile, quick claw swipe
• Dead Tree – creepy bare oak that summons sapling minions when it wakes
• Sapling minion – small, quick, comes in groups
• Root Spike effect – warning shadow, roots burst out of the ground

Every tree: awaken, walk (4 directions), attack (4), hurt (4), death and fall asleep animations. About 470 frames, transparent PNG.

Behaviour included

• Dormant → wakes when the player comes close or hits it → chases and attacks → if you run away it walks home, roots itself back into the ground and heals.
• Simple Health component with teams, hit flash, knock-back and events (StateChanged, Damaged, Died) for sound, loot and UI.
• Ready-made prefabs, a standalone demo scene with a playable forester (WASD + Space) and an editor tool that rebuilds the prefabs.
• No Animator needed, no third-party dependencies.

Technical

• Unity 6 (6000.0+), 2D sprites (works with URP 2D or the built-in renderer)
• 32 pixels per unit, high top-down view, point filter, pivots at the feet
• English documentation (PDF + README)

Works great with Living Forest

The disguised oaks share the art style of Living Forest – Tree Lifecycle & Chopping and blend right in between its trees.

Use it in unlimited commercial and non-commercial games. You can't resell or redistribute the assets themselves. The demo character is for demo use only. See LICENSE.txt.

AI disclosure: parts of the pixel art were made with the help of AI tools and then edited and cleaned up by hand. The code and documentation were created with AI assistance and tested in Unity.
